Day 2 - Casco Viejo - Panama Canal - Gulf of Chiriqui 10:00 hrs – Depart the Central hotel for a walking tour in Casco Antiguo. In 1673, after the devastating pirate attack, Panama City was moved some 7.5 km west, to a small peninsula at the foot of Ancon hill, closer to the islands that were used as the port and near the mouth of a river that eventually became the entrance of the Panama Canal. The relocated town, known today as Casco Antiguo or the Historic District of Panama, not only had better access to fresh water but could be fortified. Most outstanding are the various churches as well as the Presidential Palace, originally built in the late 17th century and partially reconstructed in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, revealing example of the transformations that characterize the Historic District as a whole. Today Casco Antiguo is home to a lot of artists, galleries, handcraft markets, restaurants, vibrant night life and a wonderful mix of colors, people and flavors.
In the afternoon, you will visit the Panama Canal Visitors’ Center at Miraflores Locks where ships can be seen transiting the waterway. The 3 floor exhibit halls will provide information about the history, engineering and current

AYURVEDA
A sister science to yoga, Ayurveda is a healing modality that is also indigenous to India. It has been practiced as a medical system for more than 5000 years and is still highly effective and widely used. The word Ayurveda means “science of life” or “lore of life” in Sanskrit. The guiding principle of Ayurveda is to promote health through the balance of the five natural elements; earth, water, fire, air, and space (ether).
Due to the unique qualities of these elements, it is believed that their pairing creates three distinct energetic constitutions or “doshas”. Within the human body, the three doshas are known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each has specific mental attributes and handles certain functions, such as digestion, hormonal activity, and communication.
VATA
Vata is composed of air and space elements and controls all movements in the body’s circulation, breath, voice, transportation of nutrients to cells, communication between nerves, and excretion of waste. Vata is also associated with creativity and adaptability.
PITTA
Pitta, comprised of fire and water elements, is responsible for digestion, metabolism of nutrients, and production of cell energy. Pitta also ignites our passion, courage, and intelligence.
KAPHA
Kapha is made up of earth and water elements and handles bones, lubrication, cell membrane structure as well as growth and development from fetus to adult. Emotionally, Kapha is also about compassion, reliability, and memory.
AYURVEDA HEALING
Ayurvedic treatments include custom food plans, daily routines, herbal remedies, poultices, breathing techniques, yoga, and other therapies such as oleation, massage, and chakra balancing.
YOGA
Born in India more than 5000 years ago, yoga was originally practiced strictly by men for the purpose of spiritual development. Away from the distractions of women and family life, these yogis spent their time in long periods of meditation.
They developed yoga asanas (postures) in order to build their stamina and bring balance to the physical and energetic bodies. This pre-meditation ritual became known as “Hatha yoga” or “sun-moon yoga”, referring to the solar and lunar energies, as well as to other opposing, yet complementary, forces.
The word “yoga”, in its rudimentary connotation, stems from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means to connect or to unite. Thus by definition, everything people do, be it making a salad or making love, can be a yoga and a union of supreme consciousness.
